Interior Areas

A guide to the established regions hidden beyond the ordinary walls of Kami, including their discovery, geography, and known ways in.

Beyond the Walls

Kami has another side to explore.

Interior areas are climbable spaces discovered beyond the ordinary playable side of Kami's walls.

Some are enormous regions with their own walls, roofs, caves, and routes. Others are small pockets reached only after traveling through several other Interior areas.

Out-of-Bounds Exploration

Enter carefully.

Interior areas rely on out-of-bounds movement and clipping through game geometry. Some areas can be difficult to leave, contain invisible walls, or behave differently from the normal playable world.

Common Access Technique

The Piton Clip Method

Most known Interior entrances use the same basic technique.

01

Place the piton high

Find the highest reachable point of the wall that is not part of the ceiling and place a piton there.

02

Work the rope

Grab and lower on the rope, fall into a useful position, or reposition around the surrounding geometry.

03

Find stable ground

The goal is to get Aava into a position where she can stand normally on geometry beyond the wall.

Depending on the entrance, Aava may stand normally after lowering on the rope, fall into a position that lets her stand normally, or reach through the wall and grab something on the opposite side that she can pull herself onto.

Established Areas

The known Interior

Each area below records its relationship to Kami's normal geography and the first known way climbers reached it.

The Split Rock

The Core

Discovered by ManInAWhiteSuit

The Core is the interior of The Split Rock. It is a massive interior space filled with enormous walls and pillar-like formations.

Known Access

Troute’s Cave

Above the Troute’s Cave doorway, place a piton as high as possible without placing it on the ceiling. Use the Piton Clip Method to get Aava onto the arch and through the ceiling.

Eastern Cave

Enter the cave on the eastern side of The Split Rock. Before reaching the end, you’ll find a wooden doorway. Climb the right side and place a piton as high as possible once Aava begins clipping into the wall, then use the Piton Clip Method to pass through.

The Upside Down is the lower region of The Village’s interior. It is a massive cave filled with sheer faces hanging over an infinite chasm.

Known Access

Access

There are several ways inside. For the first discovered entrance, place a piton in the highest upper-right corner and use the Piton Clip Method until Aava gets into a stable position beyond the wall. This is one of the most difficult Interior areas to enter and may take several attempts.

Interior of The Standing Stones

The Umbrella

Discovered by ManInAWhiteSuit

The Umbrella is the upper region associated with The Village, located inside the walls of The Standing Stones. It is the largest climbable Interior area on Kami. The Upside Down lies beneath it.

Interior of The Peril

The Abyss

Discovered by ManInAWhiteSuit

The Abyss is entered from the triangular cave at the far-left end of The Palace of Winds. It is an oceanic slab of fissures and roofs leading upward toward The Rapture.

Known Access

Triangular Cave

Climb into the backside of the triangular cave. Place a piton on the left wall as high as possible, go off belay, and use the Piton Clip Method to enter The Abyss.

Field Note

There are several ways inside, but rappelling in from The Dome is recommended when possible to avoid poor fogging caused by the cutscene. Because of invisible walls, it is best to head up Genesis before exploring.

The Mid

Discovered by ManInAWhiteSuit

The Snow Globe

Interior of The Blades

Vostok

Discovered by ManInAWhiteSuit

Vostok is located within The Blades wall. Beyond its entrance lies an enormous cave filled with ice.

Once you enter the main cave, escaping can be extremely difficult. The cave is very deep, and you may not be able to return to an older save.

Known Access

Damaas’s Home

The first discovered entrance begins in the backpack room of Damaas’s home. Enter, turn around, and climb toward the upper-right side of the entrance doorway. Near the roof is a small diagonal crack.

First Roof

Place pitons high near the roof to the left of the crack and use the Piton Clip Method. Once Aava clips far enough through, place another piton inside the glitched area and pull upward.

Second Roof

Continue across the rocks toward the large ramp leading into another roof. Clip through the roof, walk through the invisible wall on climber’s left, and rappel down to the snow.

Ice Cave

Continue through the cave and climb the low-angle slab to reach Vostok’s massive ice cave.
