Join A Lobby
Players meet inside a CairnMP multiplayer lobby before heading onto Kami together.
Chapter 09
Climb with other players, tackle Kami and its routes together, find multiplayer lobbies, and compete as a team.
Multiplayer Cairn
Two-Player brings multiplayer climbing to Cairn, allowing players to join a lobby and tackle Kami and its routes together.
Players climbing as a pair are bound together by rope, and each climber has their own five pitons. Working together creates new ways to approach routes, exploration, difficult walls, survival challenges, and competition across Kami.
Cairn Catalogue provides the community side of multiplayer: finding other climbers, discovering active games, organizing lobbies, and entering Two-Player competitions. CairnMP provides the multiplayer system and launcher that connects players in-game.

How It Works
CairnMP allows multiple players to climb together on Kami.
Players meet inside a CairnMP multiplayer lobby before heading onto Kami together.
Two climbers are connected together by rope while they move across the mountain.
In ordinary multiplayer, each player has their own five pitons to use while climbing.
Explore, climb Catalogue routes, tackle difficult terrain, or take on community challenges together.
Both players need to work with each other's position, movement, and available resources rather than climbing as two completely independent characters.
CairnMP Setup
The CairnMP Launcher is required before direct multiplayer lobby links can open on your computer.
Download the official CairnMP Launcher and install it on the computer you use to play Cairn.
Run CairnMP so your computer can recognize CairnMP multiplayer links.
Visit the Catalogue's Two-Player section and look for an active public game.
Select Join Game and the CairnMP Launcher will handle opening the selected lobby.
If the browser says there is no registered application for a CairnMP link, the launcher is either not installed or has not registered the link handler on that computer.
Games
The Catalogue can show games created through its own community listing system as well as public CairnMP lobbies that are currently live.
Live CairnMP Lobby
Public CairnMP lobbies can appear automatically in the Active Games list.
These are active public multiplayer sessions reported directly by CairnMP.
The button passes the selected lobby to the installed CairnMP Launcher.
Players can also create a Catalogue listing for a room they are hosting.
The Two-Player area also shows other Catalogue members who are currently online.
The Catalogue helps players discover and organize games. CairnMP is the system that actually connects the players inside Cairn.
Two-Player Competition
A pair must survive a sequence of one to four routes while working with extremely limited climbing resources.
Each climber receives only two pitons for the entire Survival challenge.
Each player may bring one source of Ultimate Buff for the challenge.
The challenge is played with Survival Mode active for the entire event.
Other food and drink cannot be used during the challenge. The permitted Ultimate Buff source is the exception.
Climbing tape is not allowed during a Survival competition.
Resource Management
If the event uses multiple routes, the same two pitons must last through the entire sequence. They are not replenished between routes.
Cairn Project
Least Falls, Buffless, and Speed can also be played as Two-Player competitions. Instead of one climber competing against another, one pair competes against another pair.
A pair climbs together under the Least Falls competition format and competes against another pair.
A pair takes on the Buffless format together while competing against another Two-Player team.
Two climbers race together as one pair against another pair attempting the same challenge.
The competing unit is the team. Two climbers take on another two climbers.
Route-Setting competitions and Jams are not part of the Two-Player competition lineup.
Final Round
A Two-Player Live Event can involve four climbers while still using the same two-screen broadcast structure as a normal Live Final.
Two climbers compete together as the first team.
One player from Pair A streams the team's climb.
Two climbers compete together as the opposing team.
One player from Pair B streams the team's climb.
Livestream
One member of each pair streams their team's climb. The Live Event therefore still presents only two screens: one for each competing pair.
Troubleshooting
Make sure the CairnMP Launcher is installed.
Open the launcher at least once so the CairnMP link handler can be registered.
If Join Game reports no registered application, check the launcher setup.
A full lobby cannot accept another player until a spot becomes available.
A lobby may disappear from the Catalogue after the CairnMP session closes.
Check the listed mod and protocol versions when investigating compatibility problems.
